Veloocity
Gabe received a call from Veloocity that his bike was ready (yay), but his phone broke last night after dropping it— pas bon! So our morning mission was to drive to the phone repair shop and make it to Veloocity in Bayonne before they closed at noon. We went to Orange first to see if they could repair the phone. They were helpful and provided us with a contact for a repair shop. They even let us borrow a phone in the meantime. Borrow a phone!? I don’t think that would be an option back home. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it in time as the repair shop was farther than expected. Repairing the phone was not an option, leading us to FNAC (similar to Best Buy) to buy a new phone. C’est dommage.
The boys stayed in Capbreton and went on a bike ride with Chase, Marissa, and Izzy. Meanwhile, Gabe and I enjoyed a classic Basque lunch in Bayonne, which was quite filling but delicious. I absolutely love Bayonne for its old-world charm, especially the area along the river with its tall old buildings, colorful shutters and awnings, bridges, and flowers. After lunch, Gabe got his Victoria electric bike from Veloocity and rode the 25 km back to Capbreton, while I drove the new car. Getting out of there was stressful due to the upcoming Fete du Bayonne celebration, causing many road deviations in preparation for the event. Since Gabe's screen wasn't working, we tried plugging it into the car, and luckily, it worked! This helped him set up his new phone and read verification codes from texts. Though the broken phone is still an issue, Gabe is finding solutions. On the other hand, I connected my phone to the car as well, but I couldn't get Gabe's screen off the airplay, making it challenging to follow the map. The car's built-in map is in French and not user-friendly, so I ended up using Google Maps on my phone, which worked better despite having to keep it on my lap to navigate home - not the most ideal situation. The voice would instruct me to take the third exit at the roundabout and continue on the street. But here's the tricky part – there always seems to be an extra exit in the roundabout that could be an exit, bike path, or bus route, and that makes it super confusing. I should just follow the signs to wherever I am going. Back at the house, the boys had a great time during their French lesson with Lula, and they're looking forward to seeing her again on Tuesday. After Gabe's long ride, we all hopped on our bikes to have pizza in Hossegor with Marissa, Chase, and Izzy. I'm absolutely loving biking everywhere, but it's bittersweet knowing we only have one more week here. Part of me wants to find another place and stay for August, but I also realize it will be twice as crowded and 5x as expensive. That being said, I'm really looking forward to our road trip ahead. Gotta make the most of our time here and get ready for the next adventure!
