Lafitenia
The boys agreed to take a leisurely day off and enjoy the comforts of home in Capbreton. After going out for lunch, they hopped on their bikes and rode around the port. As for Gabe and me, we went on a hike from Lafitenia to Guethary, which turned out to be an absolute treasure trove of hidden coves with point breaks and sandy beaches. It was exactly the kind of surf spot I had in mind — uncrowded and accessible. We stumbled upon two separate grassy areas set up with a food truck, comfy chairs, tables, and umbrellas. It is a cool concept that allows people to order from a food truck, having a “picnic” while taking in the ocean views. We had my ideal lunch in Guethary: mussels, sardines a la plancha, and a salad. We trekked back to our car. That was the best. :) I can’t believe we GET to do this anytime we want.
We had our final dinner with the Nelson family at the Halles 5 Cantons in Anglet—a place I truly love. The setup reminds me of the Oxbow market, with its center filled with long communal high chair tables and around ten stalls offering diverse options. From Mediterranean and Asian flavors to classic French dishes, desserts, and even pizza, the options made it hard to choose what to eat. Luke ordered the best steak tartare. As we ate our dishes and engaged in heartfelt conversations, the realization sank in that the Nelson clan would be embarking on their journey to L'escala tomorrow. Saying farewell tugs at my heart. The kids formed a strong bond, and I am so happy that Josh, Minaco, Gabe, and I had the opportunity to catch up. We vowed not to let six years pass before we see each other again. Hawaii, 2024?
