Genève
This past week was nothing short of spectacular as we went on a journey to celebrate Colleen's 40th birthday in Sardegna. Sheila joined us on Thursday, the 28th, and the excitement just kept building. Friday was a bit challenging since both Gabe and Charlie were nursing colds. But hey, nothing could dampen our spirits! The real adventure began on Saturday when we set our alarms for an early wake-up to drive to Bilbao for our flight to Geneva. Yep, getting to Olbia (in Sardinia) was not a straightforward journey. We made the most of our afternoon exploring Geneva, walking around the lake, and feeling the cool mist from the famous jet d'eau fountain. What is it that truly draws people to Geneva? It's one of the world's most expensive cities but lacks charm. In my opinion, the real allure lies in the charming small villages of Switzerland, making them a must-visit while keeping your distance from the bustling cities. The streets were lined with outrageously expensive stores, many of which you could find in countless other cities worldwide. Amidst the high-end stores, one gem truly stood out - Reuge. This boutique specializes in crafting intricate music boxes, and we were captivated by the artistry evident in each piece. The price tags were jaw-dropping; for instance, a music box resembling a birdcage carried a hefty price tag of over 10,000 CHF! If I had a bottomless wallet, that music box would be on my shelf! LOL For dinner, we stumbled upon a restaurant tucked away on a narrow street. The menu featured roasted chicken with potatoes and a fresh salad. While we savored our meal, local kids played in the street, adding to the atmosphere. Gabe always with a smart plan arranged for our hotel to be just across the street from the airport to ensure a hassle-free morning connection.
